Carlson introduces Web-based currency service

MINNEAPOLIS -- Carlson Wagonlit Travel introduced the My Travel Wallet program to its Internet site, at www.carlsontravel.com.

The service, which already is offered at Carlson Wagonlit Travel locations in the U.S., enables consumers to obtain foreign currency on line via the firm's Web site.

More than 80 currencies are offered on the site, and customers can obtain travelers checks in six major currencies.

My Travel Wallet is a service of Thomas Cook, of which the Minneapolis-based Carlson Cos. owns 22%.

Thomas Cook's financial services division, meanwhile, is in the process of being acquired by Travelex. The $630 million deal is subject to approvals.

Under terms of the acquisition, Thomas Cook would retain its foreign exchange businesses.
