Chinese OTA Ctrip has acquired U.S. startup Trip.com, a
travel planning app and website.
The price of the acquisition was not disclosed.
According to Trip.com, metasearch site Skyscanner (also
owned by Ctrip) will launch personalized travel recommendations powered by
Trip.com's recommendations and reviews.
"The technology, community and content behind Trip.com
will allow the company to launch inspirational and in-trip content to
travelers, such as personalized, hyper-relevant recommendations," Trip.com
said.
Trip.com will maintain its staff of 30, co-founders Travis
Katz and Ori Zaltzman, and existing office locations.
"Skyscanner shares our focus on mobile and our passion
for empowering people to have amazing travel experiences," Katz said in a
statement. "We're excited to work with Skyscanner to offer a single
resource to travelers around the world that meets all their travel needs."
