LOS ANGELES -- Priceline.com of Stamford, Conn., launched a
Web-based airline ticket-bidding service.
Visitors to www.priceline. com name the price they are prepared
to pay for a ticket when they answer a series of questions about
the desired route and the date they want to travel.
A credit card number can be typed into the Web site or called in
to a customer service facility. Priceline.com promises to answer
back within an hour for domestic tickets and within 24 hours for
international.
According to the firm, bids also can be made by calling (800)
PRICELINE. There is a minimum $5 fee for operator-assisted
telephone bids.
