Sprint PCS rolls out new wireless Net services

WESTWOOD, Kan. -- Sprint PCS recently unveiled a number of new services for the business traveler.

Travelers that have Sprint PCS Internet-ready phones can instantly convert currency, measurements and time zones by accessing ConvertIt.com.

ConvertIt.com, based in Las Vegas, offers services that are available on the Web and through Web-enabled digital devices, including Sprint PCS phones.

The Web site's services also will be located under Reference and Tools on the Sprint PCS Wireless Web.

By using Wireless Web for business, a new line of services and applications designed specifically for business customers, users of Sprint PCS Web-enabled phones have a faster Internet connection (comparable to a normal 56k modem, according to Sprint PCS) and access to their corporate e-mail and the Internet.

Another new feature for consumers is the Sprint PCS Wireless Web Modem. Sprint PCS said this new modem enables customers to dial up the Internet by sticking a PC card into their laptop -- replacing the need for a cable or phone connection to a laptop.

Sprint PCS also came out with a new wireless phone -- the Sprint PCS Phone TP3000. The company said the new phone is the combination of a wireless phone and a personal digital assistant (PDA), with a built-in speakerphone and 12-line touch screen.
