New to a Twitter chat? Here are tips on how to join a Twitter party

First-timer to a Twitter chat or "party?" Information is below. The most important rule to a Twitter chat like #TWchats is to relax and have fun. We choose topics so that anyone -- travel advisor, supplier or client -- can participate. It's hard to make a misstep!

First, join the chat. Using the Twitter search box, type in the hashtag of the chat. Then, choose the tab that says "latest." That ensures you're seeing the newest tweets and can see the chat unfold in real time. During a chat, the tweets will come fast and furious. Don't panic -- jump in wherever you can.

During a chat, the chat's hosts will tweet questions every few minutes. To become part of the conversation, simply tweet a response, retweet or question and include the chat's hashtag in the tweet.

You can reply to a tweet (be sure to include the chat's hashtag in your response). Or you can start a new tweet, or retweet another user's response and add your own.

Tweeted too soon, or don't like what you said? You can always delete it.

Chats like #TWchats provide a forum for agents to meet and talk about various topics in the travel industry. And it enables both Twitter veterans and budding enthusiasts to practice their skills.

Not on Twitter? Consider joining, just to participate in the chats (it's free to join).
