Travel Weekly's Home-based Agent E-letter: May 19, 2008

NACTA, along with partners Globus, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Azamara, will bring its long-running Home Based Success Series to Sacramento and Chicago in coming weeks. Workshops feature representatives from the five sponsor organizations and tackle such topics as marketing, technology, sales and new e-tools. The program will be offered in Sacramento on June 11 and in Chicago on July 29. One retailer at each event will win a stateroom aboard Celebrity's newest ship, the Solstice. Details and registration are at www.nacta.com. The cost is $15 in advance, $20 at the door.

NANCY BOGERT, a top-producing Cruise Planners agent based in Williamsport, Pa., was named a member of Carnival Cruise Lines' Pinnacle Club, which was created to acknowledge high-volume agencies that also exhibit excellence in promoting and selling the "Fun Ship" cruise experience. In recognition of her induction into this group, Bogert was presented with a replica of the new Carnival Freedom to display in her office.

TRAVEL QUEST, a Carlson Wagonlit affiliate and host agency in Albertville, Minn., said the number of independent agents participating in its network has doubled from 53 in 2006 to more than 110 this year.  Founder and CEO Bonnie Lee opened the agency out of her basement in 1997 and partnered with Carlson Wagonlit last year in an effort to combine "the intimacy and attention to detail of a family-owned operation with the resources and support network of an industry leader." She credited the company's growth to "a dedicated staff and a comprehensive support network for outside agents."

KEY TOURS, a wholesaler specializing in Europe and the eastern Mediterranean, is in the midst of its Agent Appreciation Month and is offering 20% commission on 10 of its most popular itineraries. Key Tours is offering the bonus pay on programs to Italy, Greece, Turkey, Sicily, Egypt, Israel, Spain and Morocco through May 31.
