The Sandals La Source Grenada is undergoing a $100 million overhaul.Peter Fraser, newly appointed general manager of Sandals LaSource Grenada Resort & Spa, is in place, on site and gearing up to welcome the first guests when the property opens in December on Pink Gin Beach on the island's southern tip.

And Fraser is confident that agents can "recommend the experience that we are creating at Sandals LaSource."

Fraser, previously general manager of Sandals Royal Plantation in Jamaica before being named to take the helm at Sandals LaSource, said Grenada had been in the company's sights "for a long time, and I now understand why. … The people are warm and friendly, the island is a place of gentle beauty and I am proud of what we are building here."

Sandals is investing $100 million to renovate, expand, enhance and convert the former LaSource resort into what Sandals CEO Adam Stewart has described as a "game changer in the Caribbean."

The new LaSource will have 231 rooms and suites, an addition of 131 to the 100 rooms Sandals inherited when it acquired the property last November.

"The resort's enhancements will make this the most contemporary property in the Sandals portfolio," Fraser said.

The accommodations will be housed within three distinct villages, named Pink Gin, South Seas and Italian. In addition, there will be several Millionaire, Rondoval and Skypool suites.

Fraser is no stranger to the hospitality industry and the challenges of positioning a property within the luxury marketplace. Under his tutelage, Sandals Royal Plantation was named a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, the only hotel in Jamaica to be so honored.

"We certainly have chosen the best man for the job," said Butch Stewart, Sandals chairman and founder.

"He has not only had an amazing career within the hospitality industry but also had a remarkable run within Sandals Resorts, curating and maintaining an award-winning resort with his amazing vision," he said.

Fraser said that Sandals' Luxury Included concept "challenged expectations of what an all-inclusive resort might be. I am honored to be entrusted with the chairman's vision for Sandals LaSource Grenada."

Tapping into his years of service and experience, Fraser's mission at the Grenada resort, as he sees it, "is to deliver the quality of service and excellence that the Sandals Resorts' brand stands by in serving the individual needs of our guests."

"I am still transitioning but am feeling at home already," he said. "Sandals LaSource Grenada has a remarkable new staff who is excited about this property."

The 17-acre beachfront site will feature nine restaurants, including a first for Sandals: a steakhouse, Butch's Chophouse, named for the company chairman.

Additional amenities include 75 butler-serviced suites, three pools, two river pools and the signature Red Lane Spa. Close proximity to the airport is a plus, Fraser said.

Offsite excursions will be available through Island Routes Caribbean Adventures, including Jeep safaris, river tubing, deep-sea fishing and a museum tour.

Major construction work is on schedule, thanks to good weather conditions and a ready supply of local labor.

Butch Stewart recently conducted a hardhat tour with Grenada Prime Minister Keith Mitchell to showcase the progress to date.

"The project has employed 504 construction managers, supervisors and workers and is expected to increase to 600 workers in the next two months, 99% of whom are Grenadians," Fraser said.
