The Taino Bay Terminal, under construction adjacent to the San Felipe Fortress in Puerto Plata, is slated to receive the first cruise ship passengers in November, according to the Ministry of Tourism, the Dominican Port Authority and Puerto Plata Port Investment, the company building the facility.

Construction began early in 2019.

The new Taino Bay port will be the second cruise port on the destination's north coast. The first to open was Amber Cove in 2016 in Maimon Bay, 30 minutes away.
