MIAMI -- The Sovereign of the Seas will get an "extreme makeover" in November, which includes adding balconies to the ship: Sixty-two suites on deck 10 will get balconies, a first for the vessel.

But refurbs will touch areas throughout the Sovereign. A new bathroom in each cabin, updated restaurants, a specialty coffee stand and Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop, and entertainment choices like those found on other Royal Caribbean ships, like the Latin-themed Boleros bar are all planned. A new restaurant concept, meanwhile, is "still under development."

The Sovereign sails three- and four-day Bahamas cruises from Port Canaveral, Fla., and is the third Royal Caribbean ship to undergo a major refurbishment in recent times, Royal Caribbean pointed out. The Monarch of the Seas was renovated in June 2003 and the Empress of the Seas just finished its refurb this month.
