An $80 million cruise ship dock in Alaska has been declared a "total loss" by the state's fire marshal office, according to the Anchorage Daily News.
A fire broke out at the north pier of the Chugach Glacier Gateway Cruise Terminal in Whittier on Monday, damaging one tour boat, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. No injuries were reported. It took multiple fire departments until Tuesday to extinguish the blaze, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
The terminal was built in partnership with Huna Totem Corp., the City of Whittier and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, and opened in 2024. It is unclear how the fire will impact upcoming cruise itineraries.
The Norwegian Jade reportedly departed without incident and was not damaged.
The Anchorage Fire Department said in a Facebook post that there was no working hydrant near the dock, which complicated efforts, forcing firefighters to use an engine and tenders to move 112,000 gallons of water.
