HX, formerly known as Hurtigruten Expeditions, has canceled its first two Alaska cruises of the season due to a technical issue with the ship.

The Roald Amundsen, one of the line's newest ships, is currently undergoing planned maintenance at a shipyard in Panama, which will require what the line described in a letter to booked guests as "unforeseen technical repairs," reported Cruise Industry News.

The repairs will delay the ship's departure to Alaska, resulting in the cancelation of two open-jaw May cruises, including one scheduled for May 17 sailing from Vancouver and the other departing May 29 from Seward back to Vancouver.

Guests were given the options of rebooking on an alternative voyage this year in the region at no additional cost or receiving a future cruise voucher worth 125% of the price of their cruise.

The line is optimistic the vessel will sail its June 10 cruise out of Vancouver.

The vessel is considered the first hybrid electric cruise ship
