Hanseatic Grounded in the Arctic

NEW YORK -- The Hanseatic, an adventure ship marketed by Radisson Seven Seas Cruises in the U.S., was grounded in the Arctic for several days, stranding 145 passengers, including four Americans on board.

The ship ran aground north of Spitsbergen, Norway, on July 14, according to Radisson. The ship sustained no damage, and Radisson representatives said they did not expect future sailings of the vessel to be affected.

The ship is owned by Hanseatic Tours, a division of Hamburg, Germany-based Hapag-Lloyd, and most of the passengers were believed to be German.

By July 17 the ship had been set free and was under way, heading to Longyearbyen, Norway, where it was to be inspected the next day.

Plans were to continue on schedule for arrival in Reykjavik, Iceland, on July 22.
