Holland America Line and Princess Cruises canceled additional Alaska sailings.
Holland America paused all Alaska Cruises sailing roundtrip from Seattle through June. The cancellations impact six cruises on two ships, the Eurodam and the Oosterdam. Princess extended its pause of cruises from Seattle through June 27, affecting seven-day Alaska Inside Passage cruises on the Emerald Princess and Majestic Princess.
Alaska cruises sailing from Seattle departing in July and onward have not been canceled.
Both lines said they were continuing discussions with Canadian and U.S. government authorities to try to preserve remaining Seattle sailings.
The cruises are in jeopardy because sailings to and from U.S. ports need to stop in a non-U.S. port in order to satisfy requirements of a 120-year-old cabotage law, the Passenger Vessel Services Act; Canada's extension of its ban on cruises until early 2022 leaves Alaska cruises with no foreign port in which to call.
Holland America and Princess already canceled all 2021 Alaska cruises to or from Vancouver.
"We continue to stay actively engaged in dialogue with authorities in Canada and the United States to understand what cruise opportunities may still exist in Alaska, knowing how important this market is not only to our brand, but to the communities and individuals who depend on our business," said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America.
