Katie Couric named Carnival Valors godmother

MIAMI -- NBCs Today show co-host Katie Couric will be the godmother to Carnival Cruise Lines newest ship, the Carnival Valor.

Couric will name the Valor during a Dec. 17 ceremony in Miami. The Valor, a 110,000-ton vessel, is the third Conquest-class ship for Carnival. The ship will launch seven-day cruises from Miami Dec. 19.

Carnival said that in recognition of Courics role as the Carnival Valors godmother, it will make a donation in her name to the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance, which Couric co-founded in 2000.
