A fifth Icon-class ship is officially on its way.

Royal Caribbean Group confirmed an order for a fifth ship in the series, to be delivered in 2028, and it opened a new option to build a seventh.

The developments are part of a new agreement with the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland that secures shipbuilding berths for Royal Caribbean Group there through 2036.

Meyer Turku, which constructed the two Icon-class ships now sailing, is now working on the third, the Legend of the Seas, which expected to debut ahead of schedule next summer, and a fourth Icon class ship is scheduled for a 2027 delivery.

A statement from Royal and Meyer Turku said that the buildout of each of the vessels -- the largest cruise ships in the world -- is the largest single industrial project in Finland and employs about 13,000 people at the shipyard and within the yard's network.

Royal Caribbean had previously announced an option to build a sixth ship in the class.
