Belize resorts aim to lure visitors with summer deals

PLACENCIA, Belize -- It's summertime and the living is easy and affordable in southern Belize, where properties on the Placencia peninsula are offering discounted prices.

Boasting some of the country's most beautiful beaches, access to world-class diving and snorkeling, Placencia is also the gateway to inland attractions such as the Cockcomb Wildlife Sanctuary, a jaguar preserve.

Accommodations in the Placencia area run the gamut from thatched-roof huts on the beach and guest houses to large resorts. The following is a sampling of summer offerings:

  • Green Parrot Beach Houses Resort has six beach cabanas and two thatched honeymoon cabanas, all with kitchenettes. The property is featuring a seven-night plan for $635 per person, including continental breakfast, transfers, hotel tax and service charge.

  • In addition to accommodations, the price includes breakfast and dinner daily, a snorkel tour, a Monkey River tour, a jaguar reserve tubing tour, air from Belize City to Placencia, all taxes and service charges.
