CAIRO, Egypt -- The Mediterranean Travel Fair, to be held here
Sept. 24 to 26, will focus on the environment during a daylong
event sponsored by Green Globe 21, a group that promotes
environmental awareness in travel.
Slated to be held at the Cairo International Convention and
Exhibition Center, the travel fair is organized by Reed Travel
Exhibitions, which also produces World Travel Market, held annually
in London.
The concept of sponsoring an Environmental Awareness Day at
major trade shows was launched five years ago at the London
show.
In Cairo, Environmental Awareness Day will be held on Sept. 26,
the final day of the show, and will include varied elements.
Green Globe chairman Geoffrey Lipman will hold a seminar titled
Cutting Costs and increasing Business through Sustainable
Tourism.
It is designed to show companies and communities how to take
practical steps, through Green Globe 21, to reduce costs, grow
business and increase customer loyalty. It will focus on the
opportunities emerging in Egypt and the region using real life
examples.
A Green Globe Award for Sustainable Tourism Communities will be
launched on the same day. The aim of the award is to make
individual destinations aware of the importance of green tourism,
Lipman said.
According to Tom Nutley, managing director of Reed Travel
Exhibitions, "We have a strong record of promoting the environment
at World Travel Market.
"This is an issue of growing importance, and we intend to extend
the message of sustainable tourism throughout our businesses. The
Mediterranean region is an important venue because tourism is such
a central part of the old and new economy."
