HANAMAULU, Hawaii -- The former Outrigger Kauai Beach Hotel here
will become the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort June 15.
The hotel was sold in April by former Hawaii-based owners Haseko
(Hawaii) and HK Hotels Partnership to Driftwood Ventures of West
Palm Beach, Fla.
Driftwood Ventures has already started a $10 million renovation
of the entire property, which should be completed by Nov. 1.
During the height of the renovation in July, about half of the
341 rooms will be out of inventory, said general manager Thomas
Rosati.
The hotel lowered rates to $89 a night during the
renovation.
After the refit, rack rates will start at $180 a night, then
rise to $199 a night next year.
The renovation will be extensive, said Rosati.
"We're gutting the lobby, ripping out floors and ceilings and
adding a water feature with a bridge that you walk over," said
Rosati.
"It's the same with the restaurant; we're reconstructing the
whole thing."
Guest rooms will be redone, with marble floors in the bathrooms,
said Rosati.
The hotel also is adding a bar and a sand-bottom pool.
Each room will get two phone lines and Internet access with
27-inch televisions doubling as computer screens.
The hotel has meetings space ranging from 600 to 8,600 square
feet, with a maximum capacity of 500 people. It also has a business
center.
Driftwood dropped the Outrigger name from the property after the
sale.
It will assign only marketing and reservations to Radisson.
Driftwood, which now owns seven hotels in the U.S. and the
Bahamas, will manage the hotel.
The hotel will be available for booking through all CRSs.
