Lithuania declared a state of emergency on Feb. 24 in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
"Today, I will sign a decree on introducing the state of emergency, which will be passed by the parliament in an extraordinary session," said president Gitanas Nauseda.
The move was unanimously passed later that day by the Lithuanian parliament.
Designed to allow the country to ramp up border protection, including stopping and searching people and vehicles, the state of emergency will be in place through March 10.
Nauseda also urged the EU to enact sanctions against both Russia and Belarus, where Russian troops are deployed.
