The Amos Rex Art Museum in Helsinki was named New Cultural Destination of the Year -- Europe at the Leading Culture Destinations awards ceremony in Berlin on March 4.
The museum, which opened on Aug. 18, 2018, is credited with making a key impact on the Helsinki cultural scene and drew more than a half million visitors in its first year.
Attractions include the functionalist exterior, known locally as the Lasipalatsi or Glass Palace, as well as the nearly 33,000 square feet of exhibition space set below and above ground.
Exhibitions range from experimental and contemporary art to 20th-century modernism and ancient works.
The museum space was designed by Finnish architecture office JKMM.
