Starting July 1, Madeira and Porto Santo, Portugal, will be open to international travelers.

All visitors will have to either present a negative Covid-19 test performed within 72 hours prior to leaving their departure destination or be tested upon arrival.

Covid-19 tests on arrival will be paid for by the Madeira government

Madeira has had very few cases of Covid-19 and offers accommodation options for people who want to be away from crowds, including rental villas and private estates. The island has registered 90 positive cases and no deaths.

The island is sparsely populated outside the capital of Funchal, and it features terrain for outdoor pursuits, including canyoning and trail running.

Porto Santo, the beach island off Madeira, about two and half hours away by ferry, was the first beach in Europe to officially reopen after Covid-19, and there are no restrictions on travel between the two islands.
