The Ukulele Festival Hawaii, celebrating its 49th year, will fill Waikiki’s Kapiolani Park Bandstand with music July 21.

Ukulele soloists and groups from around the world will perform in the showcase, demonstrating the range and versatility of the stringed instrument, which was born in Hawaii after Portuguese immigrants introduced the similar “machete de braga” to the Islands.

The festival runs 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will also feature food stalls, ukulele displays and giveaways, music workshops and children’s activities.
