As Hawaii's travel restrictions are easing in phases, the state's hotels, more than half of which closed during the pandemic, are gradually reopening with announcements of special offers and new cleaning protocols.
The state's 14-day quarantine for Hawaii interisland travelers was lifted on June 16, and starting Aug. 1 trans-Pacific travelers to the Islands will be able to bypass the quarantine if they can show proof of a recent negative coronavirus test.
On June 29, Wyndham Destinations reopened two Hawaiian properties, Club Wyndham Royal Garden at Waikiki and Club Wyndham Kona Hawaiian Resort. The Club Wyndham properties have instituted the new, companywide "Vacation Ready" health and safety protocols. The enhanced procedures include: steps to reduce guest-staff contact, such as prearrival check-in; increased sanitization of room keys, high-touch surfaces and common areas; cleaning stations stocked with hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes placed throughout the property; furniture arrangements conducive to social distancing; and personal protective equipment for staff and increased training on new procedures. The properties are also offering a 25% discount for Hawaii residents.
Timbers Kauai reopened on July 1, also with a new special for in-state travelers, the Hokuala Kamaaina Interisland Experience. Typically ranging from $1,500 to $2,000 per night, Hawaii residents and interisland travelers who are not under a mandatory 14-day quarantine can book accommodations starting at $495 for a two-bedroom residence and $595 for a three-bedroom residence. The package includes a wellness breakfast basket, complimentary use of beach cruiser bicycles and kayaks, a round of golf for $55 at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Ocean Course and other amenities. Timbers Kauai also implemented new safety and health procedures, including appointing a hygiene inspector to ensure the new standards are met. The new system includes; leaving accommodations vacant for 24 hours in between reservations; remote, contactless check-in with residence keys disinfected prior to arrival; redesigned communal spaces to promote social distancing; and daily delivery of fresh linens, towels and coffee and other amenities in lieu of daily housekeeping services.
Montage Kapalua Bay on Maui is scheduled to reopen Aug. 1 with the launch of its "Spirit of Now" package. The promotion offers flexible booking terms, a resort credit of $100 per night (up to $300), no cancellation fees up to 48 hours prior to arrival and a view upgrade at check-in. The resort featuring 50 residential-style, multibedroom suites has also installed the new Montage International's Peace of Mind Commitment for safety and cleanliness including use of ultraviolet wands, enhanced cleaning procedures, capacity reduction in public spaces and contactless bell services.
