On the island of Hawaii, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, which was developed by Laurance Rockefeller, has completed an extensive $180 million renovation done just in time for its 60th anniversary to be celebrated in June.

The updates touched the resort's 252 guestrooms and suites, pool, lobby, restaurants and golf course. The project also added a wellness retreat with a 2,500-square-foot fitness center and adults-only infinity pool; and a re-concepted beachfront dining venue Hau Tree Cantina, which serves burgers and salads for lunch and contemporary Mexican fare for dinner.

"Every detail of this renovation was guided by Rockefellers' original vision, preserving the architecture, celebrating local craftsmanship and honoring Hawaii's culture and the island's natural beauty," said Kansas Henderson, hotel manager at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.

"Coming this spring, we look forward to unveiling the Spa at Mauna Kea, an unprecedented sanctuary for wellness and rejuvenation, introducing a spa experience unlike anything previously offered at the resort," Henderson added.

The spa is slated to have 11 treatment rooms, couples retreat suites, steam and sauna facilities, a male and female purification garden, a movement pavilion and a pool.

Grand Reopening deal at Mauna Kea

For a limited time, the hotel is offering a Grand Reopening Package for a four-night stay including the night of June 5. It includes daily breakfast, two tickets the reopening gala on June 5 and a $100 per-night resort credit.
