Given its acquisition spree over the past few years, Travel Leaders Network's dominance in the consortia category should come as no surprise.
Still, the growth in its dominance over the past three years, when the Travel Industry Survey began tracking consortia membership, is still impressive. In 2017, 29% of respondents were Travel Leaders Network members. Last year it was 33%, and this year it is 37%, by far the most popular.
Travel Leaders Network's heft is also growing among the top-earning agencies. Last year, Virtuoso had nearly double the membership of Travel Leaders Network among agencies with $10 million or more in sales. This year, Travel Leaders Network surpassed Virtuoso.
The numbers also indicate that among agencies earning less, consortium membership is less popular: About one-quarter of the low-volume agencies, both traditional and home-based, do not belong to any consortium.
