Travel Weekly's Travel Industry Survey 2017

Percent of agencies' revenue from various travel products

The most significant change in travel product revenue in 2016 was air travel, which drew even with ocean cruises departing from the U.S. in the top spot, driven almost entirely by the traditional agencies.

The data reveals surprising diversions in revenue sources between the largest traditional agencies in our survey (annual sales of $10 million or more) and the largest home-based agencies (sales of $500,000 or more). Ocean cruises from the U.S. is by far the dominant revenue source for home-based agencies, while air travel is the largest contributor to revenue for large retail agencies. The highest revenue home-based agencies draw a larger share of their revenue from all-inclusive resorts than the largest traditional agencies do, but those larger traditional agencies sell a larger percentage of hotels overall than the largest home-based agencies.
