One year after debuting the $2 million, 40,000-square-foot Coral KidZ Club at the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun, the hotel is expanding it with a Mayan-themed outdoor sand-and-water-filled play zone.

The new outdoor area, connected to the club, takes kids on an expedition through the jungles of the Yucatan as they explore the play areas. Slated for a two-phase opening, young guests will be able to enjoy portions of the park this month, with the final unveiling of the water attractions in November.

The 16,145-square-foot outdoor zone will give a 360-degree experience. Budding paleontologists and aspiring archaeologists can search and dig for fossils, assembling what they find to create a dinosaur sculpture.

A towering Mayan Temple, the play zone’s focal point, encourages children to climb up the ruins and through the caves to find winding slides that lead to water and sand. There, they will find the “spray grounds,” an area where kids can play in a large wading pool surrounded by fountains and waterfalls.
