Palace Resorts’ Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort in Cancun unveiled its new dolphinarium, featuring a saltwater aquarium that is more than 37,000 square feet in size.
The attraction, home to eight dolphins, is managed by Dolphin Discovery, which has locations in Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, Puerto Aventuras and throughout the Caribbean. The trainers are members of the International Marine Animal Trainers Association.
Starting at $129 per person, participants take part in a 15-minute orientation followed by a 40-minute session with the dolphins, supervised by trainers.
Visitors suit up with a life jacket, goggles and snorkels for dolphin activities ranging from belly rides to feedings. Kids under 8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
Three programs are offered: Dolphin Encounter, which is geared to families; Royal Swim, which includes the foot push, where dolphins swim underneath the guests and gently push them to the surface; and Ultimate Dolphin Swim, which offers a dorsal tow, free time with the dolphins and a belly ride.
Guests who book a stay of five or more nights can use the $1,500 resort credit for the Dolphin Discovery attraction (the Ultimate Dolphin Swim only) as well as for room upgrades, spa treatments, golf, wedding packages and off-site tours.
Resort accommodations start at $171 per person, per night, double.
