In a region acclaimed for top-notch beaches, receiving recognition for having the greatest, cleanest and most pristine beaches in Cancun and the Rivera Maya is quite an achievement.
Real Resorts accomplished just that thanks to its two Cancun properties, the Royal Cancun and the Gran Caribe Real Cancun. The properties’ beaches were named the Best of the Best at the seventh annual Clean Beach Conference held recently in Mazatlan.
The conference was organized by the National Water Commission, the National Environment and Natural Resources Ministry, the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Health.
“Because of the beauty of all of the Riviera Maya’s beaches, this recognition is awarded only to those who go above and beyond normal stewardship and adhere to the strictest guidelines,” according to the award statement.
To receive the award, beaches had to meet the following criteria: no trash on the sand; appropriate signage on the beach indicating resort services and information; clean and ecologically correct sea water without any signs of pollution; and the presence of trained lifeguards, warning flags indicating surf conditions and security.
In addition, the resort had to demonstrate best practices in the protection of the natural wildlife, including pelicans, seagulls and sea turtles. (Real Resorts operates an extensive sea turtle protection program.)
