Asilia Africa will expand into Uganda in mid-2026 with the opening of Erebero Hills, a new eight-suite lodge on the northern edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The property will mark the safari operator's first venture into Uganda and its entry into the competitive mountain gorilla-trekking market.
Set on 45 acres of reforested land, Erebero Hills will offer guests direct access to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a Unesco World Heritage Site that is home to more than half of the world's mountain gorilla population. Each suite will feature private viewing decks with forest views, outdoor showers, and bathtubs positioned to overlook the landscape.
The main lodge will include a swimming pool and deck, pool bar, sunken fireplace lounge, library and spa treatment facilities. Rates will range from $1,100 per person per night in low season to $2,000 in high season.
A local focus
Asilia Africa has partnered with local organization Change a Life Bwindi to engage with indigenous Batwa and Bakiga communities as part of the development. The company has committed to planting 25,000 indigenous trees to create a reforested buffer zone around the existing national park, aimed at expanding wildlife habitat and supporting local livelihoods.
The lodge's design, led by Pablo Luna Studios, will use local materials including bamboo, stone and rammed earth. The structure will adapt to the sloping terrain through terraces and suspended elements that integrate with the forest canopy.
Activities will center on gorilla-trekking experiences, along with forest walks, waterfall visits, cultural tours with the Batwa community and exploration of nearby tea plantations. The lodge will also offer forest bathing and garden tours as part of its wellness programming.
