Known primarily for its luxury beach resorts, One&Only has announced it is evolving its brand with the introduction of nature resorts. It will be opening two of them in Rwanda: One&Only Nyungwe House and One&Only Gorilla's Nest.
Reservations are being accepted for the One&Only Nyungwe House, opening by the end of 2017. The resort is situated in Gisakura, a working tea plantation, on the edge of Nyungwe National Park. The Nyungwe Forest is thought to be one of the oldest forests in Africa, with incredible diversity including over 13 different species of primates, representing 20% of all the apes in Africa and 75 different species of mammals. The resort will comprise 22 rooms and suites in six wooden villas. All the villas have views of the forest, and each room and suite has an open fireplace and private decks.
One&Only Gorilla's Nest, located near the village of Kingi, will open in 2018 and is positioned on the foothills of the Virunga Volcano range. Guests will be able to discover the habitat of mountain gorillas, an experience that can be hard to come by, as Rwanda is one of only three countries in the world where the critically endangered species lives. In addition to the gorilla trek, guests will also be able to see golden monkeys and visit Dian Fossey's Karisoke Camp.
