Kenai Peninsula-based Alaska West Air will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2018, commemorating four decades of flightseeing, fly-in fishing, bear-viewing and charter offerings.
Since the company's 1978 launch, team members have welcomed crews from National Geographic, BBC, MTV and Disney, along with as many as 6,000 private guests a year. Popular flight destinations include Katmai National Park and Preserve, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, Lake Clark National Park and Preserve, Chinitna Bay and the historic cabin of naturalist Dick Proenneke, who lived on the shores of Twin Lakes for nearly 30 years.
Alaska West Air also maintains four vacation rental homes within walking distance of its boarding area, adjacent to the company's base on Arness Lake.
