"Awakening," a production that promises to dazzle audiences in Wynn Las Vegas' distinctive 360-degree theater, will open on Nov. 7.
The voice of two-time Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins will narrate the story of a journey by the story's heroine and her two fellow travelers as they seek to reunite two lost lovers. The show will include creatures animated through detailed choreography and the latest theater technology.
Bernie Yuman, Baz Halpin and Michael Curry conceived and created the show. Yuman, the executive producer, boasts credits that include Siegfried & Roy's 25-year run in Las Vegas and "On Your Feet" on Broadway. Director Halpin has produced, directed and designed concerts for stars including Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Britney Spears and Tina Turner. Character designer Curry is best known for his work on "The Lion King" on Broadway.
The show will be in the same 1,600-seat theater that housed "Le Reve," which closed during the pandemic's outset and never reopened. But it will not have the water-based stage for which that production was known.
Each "Awakening" seat is within 75 feet of center stage. The 60-foot, prism-like stage is made of custom LED screens and glass that appears to be different colors when viewed from different directions. More than 300 costumes bring the five worlds of "Awakening" to life.
"The puppetry and designs speak to the magnitude of 'Awakening' as every scene takes the unbelievable and makes it real," Curry said. "The transformational stage acts as a character itself, allowing vast changes -- from giving viewers the impression that they are submerged underwater to floating in a world in the clouds. These worlds come to life with imaginative characters and creatures unlike anything audiences have seen before."
"Awakening" tickets start at $115 plus tax and fees and are on sale now. Showtimes are 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
