The Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino is growing. In January, the 5-year-old resort set in the former home of the Lady Lucky announced that it will add a third hotel tower in 2020.
At the corner of Fourth Street and Ogden Avenue, the tower will add 250,000 square feet to the resort's total area, including seven floors of guestrooms that almost double the current room inventory from 629 to 1,124. The tower will also give a boost to the premium room list, increasing the number of studio, one-bedroom and presidential suites at the downtown hotel.
"The addition of the new suites expands Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino's capacity to serve groups of all kinds as the perfect downtown destination," John Culetsu, vice president and managing director of the Downtown Grand, said in a statement.
The new construction will connect to the rest of the resort both through the ground-floor casino and via the third floor Citrus Grand Pool Deck, which hosts live concerts and special events during the summer season.
According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, hotel occupancy in Downtown Las Vegas was at 83% in 2018, even with the previous year and up slightly from 2016.
In a statement, Downtown Grand general manager Kevin Glass said demand for the resort's rooms has increased over the past five years. "We believe that having over 1,000 rooms will allow us to meet that new demand and provide a Downtown Las Vegas experience visitors as well as locals are seeking," he said.
