Las Vegas is marking National Travel and Tourism Week , the annual celebration of the contributions of the U.S. travel industry, with a video from hospitality workers and a special display of lights.
Organized by the U.S. Travel Association, Tourism Week's theme this year is the "Spirit of Travel," hope in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
A video being released this week features poignant messages from local hospitality workers. From 7:30 p.m. to midnight Pacific time on Tuesday, resorts and attractions will be lit up red, the official color of National Travel and Tourism Week, in a show of solidarity.
A #SpiritofTravel social media campaign will feature red filters and shareable assets.
"At the heart of the travel industry are the dedicated hospitality workers, and we appreciate all they do to make Las Vegas the world's best destination," said Steve Hill, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority president and CEO. "Despite these trying times, Las Vegas remains a popular escape, and we look forward to welcoming our guests back when the time is right."
The U.S. Travel Association is hosting a 12-hour Virtual Road Trip on Twitter on May 5 beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern time . Destinations, restaurants, hotels, small businesses, parks and attractions will be highlighted. Using the hashtag #VirtualRoadTrip to participate. Nevada will be featured at 7:15 p.m. Eastern time.
