The World Travel and Tourism Council will hold its 2011 Global Travel and Tourism Summit in Las Vegas.
The WTTC’s last U.S. summit was in 2006, in Washington. This year’s conference takes place next month in Beijing.
Jean-Claude Baumgarten, president and CEO of the WTTC, said that the organization would take the year between the Beijing event and the Las Vegas summit to "promote the importance of travel and tourism, and also its wider impact on other sectors, in the United States."
He said the U.S. was "the world’s leading travel and tourism economy."
The Las Vegas summit will be held May 15 through 19 at the Aria Resort and Casino in the CityCenter complex.
The WTTC said that Las Vegas’ bid for the summit was "significantly strengthened" by support from local and regional governments as well as industry groups such as the U.S. Travel Association.
