Delfin Amazon Cruises will offer two cruises in 2020 that give guests the chance to work alongside pink river dolphin conservation specialist Joanna Alfaro.

The pink river dolphin is a rare species found in the freshwater rivers of the Amazon near Iquitos, Peru. They are social, friendly, extremely intelligent creatures and one of the highlights of a visit to the Amazon Basin.

Pink river dolphin conservation specialist Joanna Alfaro will join two Delfin sailings in the Amazon in 2020.

Alfaro will be on two of four-day voyages aboard the Delfin III, departing March 2 and April 28, the company said.

The marine biologist will host onboard talks about her research, which focuses on mitigating the unintentional catch of dolphins by fishermen. Guests will also learn how to spot and identify the different types of dolphins on the Amazon and will have the opportunity to accompany her as she deploys seapods to collect and record the sounds of dolphins and to record temperatures in water where dolphins are spotted.
