Thai hospitality company Minor Hotels has launched a new two-cabin river cruiser on the Mekong River called the Gypsy

The boutique, four-passenger vessel will sail three- and four-day cruises between the Laotian capital of Luang Prabang and Thailand's Golden Triangle.

The Gypsy features indoor and outdoor living spaces, as well as a communal mid-ship lounge, bar and dining area, and a separate veranda-style lounge with an al fresco panorama deck at the bow of the boat.

The two-cabin Gypsy features a communal midship lounge, bar and dining area, as well as king- and twin-bed cabins.

Bangkok-based design consultant Jiraparnn Tokeeree of the design firm Touchable oversaw the interior design concepts, which are meant to evoke a social atmosphere as well as modern comfort design. There are wood details and thatching throughout, which stand in harsh contrast to more modern features like stark floor-to-ceiling windows.

The staterooms are air-conditioned and consist of either a single king bed or two twin bed configurations, and each has an en-suite shower and vanity.

The Gypsy's open sun decks offer unobstructed views of the Mekong River.

Daily shore excursions offer a mix of cultural immersion programs and more active adventures such as guided jungle treks and mountain biking in Ban Houy Phalam. There will also be the opportunity for freshwater fishing, to experience a traditional weaving workshop at Ban Baw, whisky tasting in Laos, a visit to an elephant camp in Pak Beng, and to the Pak Ou caves, which feature striking limestone formations.

Onboard activities include yoga, folk dancing, Laotian language classes, a weaving workshop and cooking classes.

The vessel is part of Minor Hotels' growing Mekong Kingdoms cruise division, which consists of a fleet of five vessels: a 13-cabin boutique barge, the new four-passenger Gypsy, and three day boats for shorter, private excursions and for private events.

Rates for the Gypsy start at $5,450 for the entire boat for up to four guests and include all on board meals, all beverages, Wi-Fi, shore excursions, an English guide, entrance fees and transfers, onboard activities and gratuities. Ages 4 and under travel free.
