Riviera Travel launched the Riviera Rose, the first of a new generation of ships, in Portugal on Tuesday.

Last year, Riviera said it would make a branding change for new ships, including "Riviera" in the name, and the Riviera Rose is the first ship with that branding. Riviera's other ships are named for British authors.

The 114-passenger ship is the first to debut Riviera's new split-level design.

"As the newest ship to join our feet, Riviera Rose represents an exciting new chapter for Riviera Travel, as we introduce contemporary new design elements and signature experiences that underscore our commitment to providing guests with memorable journeys through Europe's most iconic waterways," said Stuart Milan, the company's president of North America.

The split-level design creates an open atmosphere and has skylights spanning the ceiling. The sun deck features the Sky Lounge, where passengers can dine al fresco and enjoy a full bar.

The ship features 57 cabins across three decks with convertible double-to-twin beds, a bathroom with a rain shower, a desk and chair, a flat-screen TV, air conditioning, a coffee machine and a tea kettle.

Balcony suites are 258 square feet and have an outdoor balcony seating area. The standard cabins are 172 square feet and include a French balcony and an indoor seating area. Cabins on the lower deck have fixed windows.

At breakfast, the Riviera Rose offers a buffet and menu service. Dinner is served as a three-course meal with regional specialties inspired by the region and prepared with local ingredients. The company's enhanced drink package is now included on all departures this year and offers unlimited beverages during lunch and from 6 p.m. to midnight.

The Rose will sail two itineraries: a seven-night Douro cruise and a 10-night land-cruise package that includes three fully escorted nights in Lisbon following the cruise.

The itineraries begin in Porto and include excursions to Castelo Rodrigo, a 12th-century village; the Foz Coa Engravings Museum, which features a collection of outdoor rock art; Salamanca, Spain; and Pinhao, known for its production of port wine.

The company will debut the Riviera Radiance on the Danube later this year.
