Amadeus River Cruises is offering an exclusive opportunity for fans of "The Sound of Music": an appearance by Elisabeth von Trapp, whose family inspired the award-winning Broadway show and film.
A singer herself, von Trapp will meet the July 24 sailing of the eight-day Classic Danube itinerary when it arrives in Salzburg, Austria, and will lead a walking tour of the city. Von Trapp is the granddaughter of George and Maria von Trapp, whose 1949 memoir inspired the Broadway musical and film.
"As a dual Austrian-American citizen and certified tour guide, it's a joy to welcome guests to Salzburg and share a side of Austria that feels both personal and timeless," von Trapp said. "This is a journey that sings with history."
The cruise aboard the Amadeus Imperial begins in Passau, Germany, and will sail to Budapest, stopping along the way in Linz and Vienna, Austria, and Bratislava, Slovakia. The Package A itinerary option will include the Salzburg walking tour as well as other excursions, including in Passau and Vienna.
Excursions on the cruise include visiting Veste Oberhaus, a preserved castle complex in Passau; hiking the Postlingberg hill in Linz; and a wine tasting in Slovakia.
Amadeus is offering a $500-per-person discount on suites and a $250-per-person discount on all other staterooms categories for travelers who book by May 9 with discount code MUSIC2025.
"Our family-owned company has been rooted in Austria for more than 40 years," said Marcus
Leskovar, Amadeus executive vice president. "This unique collaboration is a natural extension of our commitment to honoring and sharing the cultural richness of Austria."
