U.S. travel agencies sold $88.5 billion in airline tickets
in 2017, up 3.4% from 2016, reported ARC.
The increase came even as the average domestic roundtrip
ticket dropped approximately 1%, to $483. Countering the reduction in ticket
prices was a 3.5% increase in the number of tickets sold by travel agencies.
Meanwhile, agencies made significant gains in their sales of
ancillary products, mostly seat upgrades. Total sales of ancillaries by U.S.
agencies amounted to $77 million, up from $50 million in 2016.
