ASTA Blasts United for Ad

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- ASTA chastised United Airlines for running an ad in the Wall St. Journal proclaiming that consumers are "better off" if they book through United's Web site.

The ad said travelers can use the site to make bookings on 500 airlines, 30,000 hotels and 45 car rental companies, and they will earn 1,000 bonus miles for buying a United ticket.

ASTA president Michael Spinelli responded, "Why not ask them to fly the planes? Only an airline could run an ad that says 'You want service? Don't ask me. Do it yourself.' "
