AirHelp, an app that assists airline passengers in making compensation claims for delayed and canceled flights, has launched an app-operated boarding pass scanner.

The scanner allows passengers to check their eligibility for compensation immediately, and to make claims instantly.

For American flyers, the compensation app is most often useful for delayed or canceled flights to the U.S. from Europe. EU law requires airlines to compensate passengers for most flights that are delayed more than three hours for non-weather-related reasons.

To use the new feature, passengers scan the barcode on their boarding pass and the app populates all required data for a claim submission.

When claims on transatlantic flights are successful, AirHelp keeps 25% of the payment.
