Alaska Airlines will eliminate 10 San Francisco and Los Angeles routes next year while placing a greater emphasis on San Diego and Portland, Ore.

The airline is cutting San Francisco service to Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Boston, Austin, Newark, Orlando and Burbank, Calif.

Alaska is also ceasing service from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and Reno in Nevada and San Jose in California. Alaska will also reduce Los Angeles-Newark service from three times to once per day.

The cuts will be implemented at various times during the winter, spring and summer months, corresponding with a substantial buildup by Alaska in San Diego and Portland. They were initially noted on X by Ishrion Aviation.

Travel Weekly has reached out to Alaska Airlines for comment.

The airline noted last week that it would make cuts in Los Angeles and San Francisco to make way for 13 new routes, including five from San Diego and four from Portland.

Year over year, Alaska has a combined 31.7% more seats scheduled in Q2 2026 out of San Diego and Portland, according to Cirium data. The airline has 10.9% fewer combined flights scheduled from Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Alaska is already the largest carrier in Portland and second-largest in San Diego, according to Bureau of Transportation Statistics data, but has a small piece of the pie in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
