Breeze Airways plans to be flying only Airbus A220s for scheduled operations by the end of this year.
The discount carrier, which launched service in 2021, currently has 22 Airbus A220-300 aircraft in its fleet to go along with 16 Embraer E190 and E195 planes.
By year's end, Breeze expects to be flying 32 A220s. The carrier has 80 A220s on firm order, having announced Tuesday that it had converted 10 A220 options into new firm orders.
Breeze's A220s are equipped with its first-class Ascent cabin to go along with an economy cabin split between standard seats and seats with extra legroom. In contrast, Breeze's Embraer planes have just one cabin, split between standard seats and seats with extra legroom.
The A220 also has more range than the E190s by approximately 1,000 miles, allowing Breeze to use them on cross-country flights.
In its initial business plan, Breeze was expecting to begin operations with an all-A220 fleet, but it added Embraers to enable an earlier launch.
Breeze said it plans to continue operating much of its Embraer fleet for its charter business.
