China Airlines adds rice burgers to menu

China Airlines is going the healthy, albeit fast food, route with the recent addition of MOS (Mountain Ocean Sun) Rice Burgers to its economy-class menu on its flights from Taipei to New York, Sydney and Brisbane, Australia.

The MOS Rice Burger is the headline menu item at the MOS fast food restaurant chain that originated in Japan and is now the second largest fast food franchise in Japan after McDonald's.

The MOS burgers, as well as Pork Rice Burgers, Chicken Rice Burgers and Vegetarian Burgers, are specially designed for China Airlines as part of the carrier's global effort to reduce carbon emissions, according to Phillip Wei, chairman.

"We're offering the burgers not only to bring our passengers innovative and tasty meals at 35,000 feet but also to promote Taiwan's agricultural products," Wei said.

The rice burger uses a bun made of rice mixed with barley and millet; burger fixings include seafood shrimp fritters, fried burdock roots, grilled pork and grilled strips of beef.
