FAA shuts down LAB Flying Service over maintenance issues

The FAA has shut down LAB Flying Service in Juneau, saying the charter and commuter operator has shown a "callous disregard" for safety.

In a 28-page report, the FAA said the operator, which has been flying since 1956, has committed a number of maintenance-related violations, including swapping parts from a plane that had been heavily damaged in a fire and bolting them on another airplane without checking for damage.

A message on LAB's website reads: "Unfortunately we have temporarily suspended our flights. We've enjoyed serving Southeast Alaska for the last 52 years and look forward to serving you again."
