Charlotte Douglas International Airport will be the location of the sixth American Airlines Flagship Lounge. The carrier was sparse on details Thursday, saying that construction information and an expected opening date will be shared in the future.
The lounge will be a boon for premium flyers who journey on any of the eight long-haul international routes that American currently operates out of Charlotte, all to Europe. The lounge will be American's fourth in Charlotte, which is the airline's second-largest hub behind Dallas-Fort Worth. American also operates two Admirals Clubs at the airport as well as the grab-and-go Provisions lounge that opened this month in Concourse A.
As part of Thursday's announcement, American also said it will enlarge its Admirals Club in Charlotte.
American currently has Flagship Lounges in Dallas, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles and Philadelphia, with the Philadelphia lounge having opened this past May. Also, American shares premium lounge space in New York JFK with British Airways.
Flagship Lounges are open to flyers traveling in first or business class on same-day long-haul flights operated by American, one of AA's Oneworld partners and Aer Lingus. Premium flyers on select domestic routes are also eligible, as are international flyers with high-level loyalty status with American or another Oneworld airline.
The Charlotte lounge will have dining, plus private shower suites and workstations.
