Hawaiian Airlines has debuted its free WiFi service.

The carrier's first connected flight took to the sky Thursday, traveling from Honolulu to Long Beach, Calif.

With the launch, Hawaiian is the first large U.S. airline to deploy SpaceX's Starlink satellite service, although the semi-private carrier JSX also uses Starlink.

Hawaiian will gradually roll-out the free WiFi on its longhaul fleet, beginning first with its Airbus A321neo aircraft. The carrier expects to install and activate antennas on all its 18 A321neo aircraft by spring, followed by its A330s by the end of the year. The service will also be available on Hawaiian's Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners once deliveries begin.

Hawaiian says that the Starlink service allows for streaming, gaming and other connected experiences, even over remote portions of the Pacific Ocean.
