Iberia hacked, exposing customer data

Iberia is the latest airline to fall victim to a cyberattack. The Spanish carrier emailed customers over the weekend, informing them of the breach of a system maintained by one its technology contractors.

Names, email addresses and loyalty numbers may have been compromised, the carrier said, but passwords and bank information were not accessed.

The Iberia data breach follows cyberattacks of Qantas, Hawaiian, WestJet, Air France-KLM and Aeroflot this summer.

Analysts expect that hackers, having found an industry that isn't well protected, will continue to target airlines.

Iberia has encouraged customers to notify their call center of suspicions communications.
